SUMMER ROWING CAMPS

Spend the summer on the water with Team Tampa Rowing. Our summer camps offer a fun, active way for youth and teens to build skills, make friends, and experience one of Tampa’s most unique sports. Whether your athlete is brand new to rowing or already has experience, we offer programs for every level.

 

Important Registration Information
JBL Recreational Rowing Camp is the only camp that requires a City of Tampa Rec Card and registration through the City of Tampa website.  All other camps register through Givebutter.

JBL Recreational Rowing Camp

Full-Day Camp for Ages 10–13

  • Time

    • Before Care: 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM

    • Camp Hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

    • After Care: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

    • Monday - Friday

  • Age

    • 10–13 years old

    • Age is determined as of 09/01/26.

  • Experience Required

    • No experience necessary.

  • Description

    • JBL Recreational Rowing Camp is designed for beginner through intermediate rowers and is a great way to try a new sport or continue building skills for the next season. Campers are grouped by age, ability, and previous rowing experience to create a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment.

    • Throughout the week, campers receive on-the-water coaching, rowing instruction, and video review to help them improve. Campers also participate in swimming and other paddling sports such as kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Activities may vary from week to week, making this a great option for families interested in multiple sessions.

    • Each week concludes with a race and awards ceremony at the Tampa River Center.

Middle School Returning Camp

For Experienced Rising 6th–8th Grade Rowers

    • Monday - Friday

    • Rising 6th–8th Grade

  • Experience Required

    • At least 1 year of rowing experience, or completion of 2 weeks of JBL Recreational Rowing Camp

  • Description

    • Middle School Returning Camp is designed for athletes who already have rowing experience and want to continue developing their skills over the summer. This camp focuses on rowing technique, boat skills, teamwork, and fitness in a more structured training environment.

    • It is a great option for returning rowers who want to stay active, build confidence, and prepare for the upcoming season.

High School Learn to Row Camp

For Rising 8th - 12th Grade Beginners

    • 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

    • Rising 8th–12th Grade

    • No experience necessary.

  • Description

    • High School Learn to Row Camp is a great introduction to the sport for teens who want to try rowing for the first time. Athletes will learn the basics of rowing, including technique, water safety, boat handling, and teamwork, in a fun and supportive environment.

    • This camp is perfect for students who want to stay active, try something new, and experience rowing at the Tampa River Center.

High School Returning Camp

For Experienced Rising 8th - 12th Grade Beginners

    • At least 1 year of rowing experience, or completion of 2 weeks of High School Learn to Row Camp.

  • Description

    • High School Returning Camp is for experienced rowers who want to continue training during the summer and prepare for the next season. This camp offers a more advanced environment focused on technique, endurance, boat speed, and teamwork.

    • Athletes will work closely with coaches to sharpen their skills, stay active, and continue progressing on the water.

Strength Training Camp

For Rising 8th - 12th Grade

    • Strength Training Camp will focus on building the strength, stability, and athletic foundation that supports rowing performance. More information will be posted soon.

Junior Camp Counselor

GET YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS!

  • Description

    • ​Every year we look for rowers in the community who are interested in helping without summer camps. This volunteer opportunity gives athletes the chance to earn volunteer hours as well as earn valuable experience in coaching and working with younger athletes. Junior Counselors are expected to help ensure that camps run smoothly by setting up camps and engaging with the young athletes in the Recreation camp. Junior Counselors must be rising sophomores and have had at least one year of competitive rowing. To apply to be a Junior Counselor please fill out this form and turn it into the Tampa River Center boathouse office or email it to victoria.mattie@tampagov.net.
