Positive Coaching Alliance High School Second-Goal Parent (PARENT) Everyone wants to win. That’s a top goal in sports. In youth and high school sports such as rowing, there is another very important goal: teaching life lessons. In this workshop, parents learn why and how to focus on that goal. This 75min educational and interactive workshop guides parents to:

  • Assess their child’s goals and desires in sport… in comparison with their own goals for their child

  • Talk with your child about practices and competition and what they are learning

  • Enact and reinforce PCA’s main principles of:

    • Mastery – values of effort, learning, and bouncing back from mistakes and adversity

    • Filling Emotional Tanks – best mix of truthful and specific praise with constructive criticism

    • Honoring the Sport – appropriate ‘sideline’ behavior and interaction with coaches
