Positive Coaching Alliance
High School Second-Goal Parent (PARENT)
Everyone wants to win. That’s a top goal in sports. In youth and high school sports such as rowing, there is another very important goal: teaching life lessons. In this workshop, parents learn why and how to focus on that goal.
This 75min educational and interactive workshop guides parents to:
Assess their child’s goals and desires in sport… in comparison with their own goals for their child
Talk with your child about practices and competition and what they are learning
Enact and reinforce PCA’s main principles of:
Mastery – values of effort, learning, and bouncing back from mistakes and adversity
Filling Emotional Tanks – best mix of truthful and specific praise with constructive criticism
Honoring the Sport – appropriate ‘sideline’ behavior and interaction with coaches
